From One Prat To Another, HP

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, , darling!

Noe requested a picture of Percy Weasley. LOL unfortunately Percy is among my least favorite Harry Potter characters, for various reasons upon which, since this is a giftart, I will not elaborate HOWEVER, as Draco Malfoy is a favorite character of mine, I thought of a way to draw Percy that I would really enjoy!

SO here they are, Draco (left) and Percy (right) (more book cartoon style than film actor style, altho you CAN see traces of my Tom Felton Draco in this), their mutual arrogant prattishness getting so on each other's nerves that they finally have a go at strangling each other

Now a rant unrelated to this being a giftart (Percy lovers, please try to realize that I AM being diplomatic and fair: There is NOTHING WRONG with you if you like Percy and I would never make fun of you or flame you for your opinions. BUT I AM ALLOWED TO DISLIKE HIM BECAUSE I AM ALLOWED MY OPINION TOO. ) Here goes:

I believe that Percy would hate Draco on principle (since all the Weasleys and Malfoys seem to feel obligated to despise each other, rofl).

But here's the interesting thing.

People call Draco an opportunist. But let's look at this factually.

I believe that Draco would hate Percy passionately because of his LACK of opportunism next to Percy. Yes, LACK. Keep reading!

Draco is loyal to his family, devoted to their welfare and beliefs even when he is morally struggling with agreeing with the means to their ends (ahem, see The Lightning Struck Tower in Half-Blood Prince). He will TRY to do ANYTHING to keep them from being killed (again see Half-Blood Prince). Draco is almost TOO loyal to his parents, to the point where he will sacrifice his own emerging ethical system and allow himself to be brainwashed (until once again lol the end of book six).

PERCY, on the other hand, readily severs ties with his family, becoming estranged at the height of warfare in order to ascend higher in the Ministry of Magic pecking order, puts his mother Molly through incredible emotional agony at a time when she already has a Boggart where she fears he and his siblings will be killed. Is this important to him? Yes, it is. But it is not the MOST important thing to him, as it would be to Draco. Percy he places success, and, even more, his own lofty, abstract ideals, far above personal loyalties or personal sentiments. The exact opposite of Draco. The EXACT opposite.

It (arguably, though you know where my admiration lies ) doesn't make one better than the other. But I think it's interesting how different these two prats are A friend and I were talking about how Chamber of Secrets may foreshadow some direct conflicts btwn these two if Draco actually does end up in some way assisting the Order of the Phoenix, and getting in the stupid conservative wishy-washy Ministry's way.

Now I've had my say, and it's EXTREMELY SAD THAT THIS COMMUNITY ISN'T MATURE ENOUGH FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO SAY THIS WITHOUT DISABLING COMMENTS. But that's the way life is around deviantART these days. Sorry folks.
