My Field of Paper Flowers, WIP

LINE ART VERSION. The finished product will have a field of poppies flanking him. Poppies=base form for opium, and also what he and his late baby sister, often misapprehended as Ranmao, played in before...something happened to her which is a highly disturbing spoiler from only the anime, aa spoiler that almost no one really fully understands, LOL.

Another realistic portrait of Lau Tao from Kuroshitsuji (c) Toboso Yana. What can I say? He's a beautiful man, so I like to draw him.

This is meant to capture the fact that Lau is far from the amnesiac, stoned, eternally cheerful buffoon he always pretends to be. That is a convenient smokescreen over his "business" personality, which is sharp-witted, calculating, and even a little ruthless. There is a reason Lau is THE head of the Shanghai Mafia, like, THE BOSS, at such a young age, and nicknamed "Sleeping TIGER." There is a reason why Lau can simply LOOK at one of his subordinates and say his/her name, and they immediately obey him. Something about that is frankly terrifying, and uber awesome, LOL. I think it originated in his childhood, hence the poppies which started something so innocent and became an agent of addiction, fantasy escapism, and indolence for Lau and his clients.

The title is a reference from an Evanescence song, about, appropriately, childhood tragedy, the premature loss of innocence, and coping strategies involving avoiding the cruelty of the world through numbness and daydreams.
