Akito and Shigure Sohma, distant cousins and lovers, from Fruits Basket/Furua, Natsuki Takaya's phenomenal, psychologically rich shojo manga and anime. Akito is the 20-year-old head of the family, a lonely and bitterly angry young woman, terrified of being abandoned by her family, raised by her own mother in isolation and as a male. Playing the most grueling role of the family's ancient "Zodiac Curse," Akito plays the role of Jade Empress/god of the zodiac, and is rendered very weak and sickly. Shigure, 27, was born the year of the dog, and essentially he transfers into a dog whenever emotionally under duress or embraced by a member of the opposite sex. Er well...they both USED to be this way *coughmangaspoilerscough*

Um for those not familiar with this series.... it's kind of a ...sweet... semi-sick thing going on, Shigure always was desperately in love with Akito, even to the extent of putting Tohru Honda, an outsider who stumbled upon the family, through hell to try and break the curse so he could get closer to Akito (Shigure is very Machiavellian, lol)....but when Akito hit her teens, she dated another even more distant relative, Kureno (Rooster zodiac), and sort of clung him all to herself, made him a recluse just like herself. Shigure was deeply hurt and one thing leading to another, Akito's cruel and abusive mother Ren slept with Shigure just to spite her child and show her that even the man who had always loved her would eventually betray her. Akito believed her mother's psychological abuses and kicked Shigure out of the house. He moved elsewhere and began his writing career. Years later, Akito realized she had been cruel to make Kureno endure her suffering with her, and she released him from his curse, allowing him to live his own life and date outsider Arisa Uotani, friend of Tohru. And now Akito and Shigure are in limbo, longing but angry at each other. Thus this pic, I'd say a year or so post-end-of-manga.
